What the Student is Issued

Bibbers - By now the bibbers should all be hemmed to the proper length.  The bibbers are issued to the students and will not be kept in the band hall, but will be taken home after each use. The bibbers should be dry cleaned once every 2-3 weeks. Specifically, the students are asked to dry clean the bibbers during the week prior to Homecoming Game.

For Marching
You will wear the blue marching coat, and your bibbers.  Under your uniform, you will wear a blue band T-shirt and black shorts.  You will wear black socks and marching shoes on your feet. The blue coats stay at school and are arranged on the racks numerically.  The number is printed on your suit bag.  Students must return their coats to the proper place on the racks after the game or contest. If you accidentally take them home, they must be returned to the uniform room by 8:00 a.m. Monday morning.  If you do accidentally take them home, remove them from the uniform bag and hang them in an airy place to dry.

Rain Plan B
Every football game day, wear black shorts and your band T-shirt. If there is rain threatened for the game, the directors will announce that we are going to Rain Plan B. You will wear your black shorts (no lines), band T-shirt, black marching shoes and black socks (crew length or longer) for the game. Always bring your uniform, hat, and shoes (T-shirt and shorts) to school on game day, even if you think it is going to rain! In the last four years, we have only gone to Rain Plan B once.

Care of Your Uniform
Blue Coat      The band takes care of cleaning the blue coats.  The blue coats remain at the school unless instructed otherwise.
Bibbers      You are responsible for the periodic cleaning of the bibbers which are issued to you and which you take home after each event. The bibbers should be dry cleaned once every 2-3 weeks. Specifically, the students are asked to dry clean the bibbers during the week prior to Homecoming Game.
Suitbag

You will be issued a black suit bag.  It is yours to keep and take care of. The suit bag is machine washable in warm water with a little laundry soap. Hang it to dry.  Do not put the suit bag in the dryer. The dryer causes the decal to come off.  Please wash the suit bag every couple of games, or it smells.

STUDENTS:  do not drag your suitbag across the floor, or parking lot.  It destroys it, and it no longer protects your uniform.  You will have to replace your bag if it is so worn that it no longer protects the uniform.  New bags can be purchased at the uniform room before every football game.
Backpack

You will need to get a small, plain, black backpack.  In it, you will put:

  1. A small, dark hand towel to wipe the seat (and sometimes yourself).

  2. A water bottle with a wide mouth (so it can be easily filled at the games)

  3. A small, thin pad to sit on.  Some of the stands are very rough and dirty.

  4. (optional) A small disposable raincoat (available at Wal-Mart for less than $1) The band parents will hand out sturdy raincoats if it starts to rain, but it may take awhile to distribute them.  You may want the light disposable raincoat available to cover your instrument while the others are getting handed out.

Hemming the Pants

NEW METHOD FALL 2007!!!
The pants come in a long length and need to be shortened for each student. Follow this method for a neat hem.

• Adjust shoulder straps to get a comfortable body length (check sitting and standing).

• Mark the length of the pants with the student wearing band shoes. Have the student stand straight, looking straight ahead.

Turn up the hem so that the bottom edge is 3” from the floor at the heel, with band shoes on. This length will just touch the shoe in the front, but will not cause the front crease to buckle. The length will be shorter than usual pants, but not so short that the bow of your shoelaces and the whole ankle shows.

• Fold the extra fabric in (double and triple folds). The hem may be bulky. That is OK. DO NOT CUT THE PANTS, AND IF YOU HAVE THEM HEMMED BY SOMEONE ELSE, EMPHASIZE THIS! If the pants come back to the band with cuts on them, you WILL pay for them. The cost is approx. $110.

• Press the hem, using a damp pressing cloth (not too hot; fabric is a wool/polyester blend and will scorch and trim can melt).

• Hand sew the hem with sturdy double black thread. Please do not machine sew the hems up because it permanently marks the fabric. Please do not staple, tape or pin the hems up. This also permanently marks the pants. If you take them to a seamstress or dry cleaners to be hemmed, be sure to tell them NOT to cut the hem. Pin this hemming guide to the pants when you take them in.

Students, marching pants are shorter than conventional pants. Your socks may show. Don’t worry!
Be Happy! Everyone will look just like you. We call it “Band Chic”
