with Drink !! |
| 9:40 a.m. |
The Buc Band sprints out of the band hall
for a run through on Gottschalk Field (parking lot). |
| 9:45 a.m. |
It’s time for a jammin’ run through. ”The
Facts” sends a few reporters to chronicle the event for a front page
article. The townspeople line the field to watch the entire event. All
the mayors declare it “Buc Band Day!” as they hand each student a key to
the city. The crowd is so large, that Barack Obama and John McCain
arrive by motorcade and take time to shake hands with each band student
in front of the cameras.
The Buc Band amazes itself at the level of the focused rehearsal. The
feeling among the Buc Band players is determination and confidence. |
| 10:45 a.m. |
End of run-through and the last note rings
through Clute/Lake Jackson for another 20 seconds. Applause from the
townspeople erupts. We load the yellow dogs and equipment trucks in the
utmost organized fashion. Some military top brass are there to study how
the Load Crew, Mr. Pirtle, Mr. McKelroy and the Band Dads can move so
much equipment in such an organized way. |
| 11:05 a.m. |
Bus captains dash to Ms. Walden to turn in
bus lists. |
| 11:15 a.m. |
A string of twelve yellow Ferraris pull
out from Brazoswood and speed their way to Galena Park. Be sure to
fasten your seat belt as these machines are built for speed! 50 mph! |
| 1:15 p.m. |
The caravan of yellow dogs and yellow
trucks followed by another 10 miles of minivans and SUV’s full of Buc
Band Fans Arrive at Galena Park Athletic Complex. Band members grab
their sack lunch and journey across the desert wasteland into the
stadium to glance at the field markings and use the rest room. |
| 1:55 p.m. |
Time to unload the tools of our trade and
put on our “Symbol of Pride” clothing. |
| 2:35 p.m. |
We line up outside the warm up area,
mentally focusing on the job we are about to perform. The Silver Team
has unloaded all their harps and is going through a warm-up practice. |
| 3:00 p.m. |
Warm up in Gym 2. The Buc Band is focused.
Other bands are watching to see how we do it. Despite the multitude
gathered to observe us, we remain focused to the task. |
| 3:30 p.m. |
Out of the warm-up tomb and out once more
into the desert wilderness to start our trek across to the concrete bowl
lined with thick green carpet. We vibe to the stadium. Onlookers are
amazed at the focasity of the band. |
| 3:45 p.m. |
We take the field, strut our stuff, and
climax three months of hard work. The field belongs to us and the crowd
goes wild as they see what many thought was unattainable; a band from
Brazoswood so sizzling that other bands completely surrender, knowing
that no band can compete with the totally awesome (and hip) Buc Band!! |
| 4:00 p.m. |
We leave the field surrounded by
thunderous applause and repeated standing ovations. The crowd begins to
chant BWood!...BWood!...BWood! We look up and everyone has their arms
overhead in the shape of an “O!” The chanting continues as we put up our
hot horns. Extra Security is brought in to help keep back the crowd. The
drum majors are held back by the throng begging for autographs. We
remove our uniform coats and bibbers and hang both items up on the bus
windows. Everyone is wearing black shorts and band pirate t-shirt. |
| 4:15 p.m. |
We return to the stadium, applaud other
bands and wait for the top 10 announcement. We sit together in the
bleachers, side by side with life long friends we have worked so hard
with and appreciate so much. |
| 4:30 p.m. |
Announcement of the 9 bands who will go to
the finals along with Brazoswood. The band parents immediately serve
barbeque. Band members devour the scrumptious food and then show
absolute class by disposing of all trash properly. |
| 7:00 p.m. |
Finals begin. |
| 9:45 p.m. |
