Buc Band Booster Club Meeting Minutes
September 12, 2006
Welcome Susan
Campbell at 7:30 p.m.

Susan opened the meeting by noting the very thoughtful
gift of the Bush Band to the Juvenile Diabetes Assn. in memory of
Brandon Goddard.
Band Director Reports
·
Mr. Koch
1.
Have finished learning sets for the second movement of the
marching program
2.
Have 2 ½ weeks to learn the balance of the program before
competition
3.
Mr Koch is posting info regarding band, grades, etc. weekly on
the web site - he encouraged parents to check out the website routinely
4.
Galena Park, October 7 march at 1:30 Also, homecoming
weekend. Currently trying to decide whether or not to wait on award
announcements or let kids come home for the dance may ask the kids
what they want to do.
5.
BOA Pearland, Oct 13 10:30 a.m. This is also an SAT
Saturday.
6.
Woodlands Oct. 21 Contest will be held.
7.
Very encouraged by the support of the new Administration towards
making improvements to the band hall tile floor, sound panels, ceiling
panels, etc. Mr. Ripple will be the new District Superintendent
8.
Grateful for the parent support expressed thanks.

Robin Wise moved to approve minutes,
Beverly Bernzen seconded the motion
and the motion passed unanimously.
Treasurer Report

Robin presented the current status of the budget current
account balance is $50,763.84.
·
Account breakdown is: Band - $47,701.20, Color Guard
2,176.31, Percussion Funds - $731.24, and General Bank - $155.09.
Committee Reports

First Vice President Sunny and Sam Henry
1.
Thanked everyone for chaperoning at the games have had between
40 45 folks chaperoning at each game
2.
Asked that volunteers respond by noon on Thursday with respect to
their availability to chaperone that weeks game
3.
If you want to chaperone, and are not on the initial distribution
list, please let Sunny and Sam know by Wednesday.

1.
Kroger cards available for Booster Club members to take after
meeting
2.
Food King receipts from 2006 will be accepted band receives 1%
of the proceeds
3.
Info on getting credit for the band at Randalls was attached to
the Kroger card

Spirit Support Sherri Archer
1.
In Sherris absence, Susan explained what Spirit Support does and
encouraged parents to volunteer to help provide water to band members
and man the band hall during practices

Hospitality Frances Socha
1.
Sign up sheets for volunteers to help with Masquerade Party
available to parents after the meeting for sign-up
2.
Mentioned that all chaperones will be asked to help with clean-up
3.
Opportunity to volunteer for Decorating committee will have
some pre-meetings
4.
Food volunteers sign up for specific items for the party
5.
Theme will be the 1960s
6.
Event Date - November 18, 2006 after the Festival of Lights
Parade

Public Relations Doug Wright
1.
Had new shirts for sale at meeting new logo, 65/35 cotton/poly
blend to hopefully be cooler. Do have some old style shirt available
for sale at a $5 discount
2.
Mentioned that if parents have not been receiving emails then
they need to see Doug after the meeting to verify their address and
insure that they have a deliverable email. Will also do regular mail by
request.
3.
Doug also asked parents who are interested in purchasing a
stadium chair with the band logo to sign up. We need 50 parents to sign
up to get these items at a cost of $35.
4.
Sleeveless shirts and ball caps will be available at the game
this Friday for folks who have pre-ordered

Auxiliary Rhonda Kuharski
1.
Had 107 participants in the Mini Color Guard Camp held Saturday,
September 9
2.
90 of the participants attended the game and participated in the
half time show
3.
Plans are to have a fundraiser at the Clute Dixie Dr. Sonic this
Saturday, September 15 and the following Saturday, September 22, at
Sonic in Lake Jackson
Old Business

Review and vote on 2006-2007 Budget Susan

1.
Susan explained the general layout of the budget report
2.
Asked members for general questions regarding the proposals
3.
Question about reduction in travel Mr. Koch explained that BISD
pays for UIL competition transportation and with it being a State year,
this transportation would be covered
4.
Question about why expenses and income do not match on the
proposed budget Susan addressed this with the explanation that since
we rely heavily on fundraisers we cannot precisely plan to balance out
our overall budget
5.
Question about Commissioned Music in honor of Brandon Susan
noted that the band officers are trying to raise money to pay for this
from the band but we have provisionally included this in the Booster
Club budget.
6.
Question about specifics what was included in the Non-Saleable
Merchandise line item Robin Wise answered: French Horns, Icarus
Shirts and Buc Band Signs
7.
Question about specifics of what is typically included in the
Capital Improvements line item Sam Henry answered: directors tower,
parking lot lights, striping marching field, uniform room upstairs,
purchase of carts for band, truck, etc.
8.
Rhonda Kuharski moved to approve the budget and Patty Sayes
seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Truck Update/Report Sam Henry
1.
Weather has not been cooperative with respect to priming and
painting the truck. Hope to have it done within the next 2 weeks.
2.
Sherwin Williams has offered to donate paint for the truck.
Sam Henry will obtain specific
details on this.
3.
BISD located the truck title, truck is insured, license has
been transferred, recapped tires have been put on the truck (better
recapped tires currently on order), currently meets inspection criteria,
BISD has agreed that the cab is adequate and can be used to pull the
truck
4.
Logo will be sent to Mr. Okruhlik for approval.

Golf Tournament Keith Wise
1.
Currently have about 14 sponsors and 8-9 teams for the
tournament on September 23
2.
Email published in the paper for helping and participating was
incorrect Keith asked that individuals re-send info to the correct
email listed on the Buc Band website.
3.
Still need help for working during the tournament those willing
to volunteer can contact Keith
4.
Sign up for teams would like ASAP but will accept teams even on
the day of the tournament. Preferably would like to know teams by
Tues/Wed of next week
5.
Golf Course will handle most of the preparation details on the
day of the tournament
6.
Drum line students will ride on carts to water and soft drinks
for participants. Beer will be sold by the Golf Course but not be
handled by the students and the Band will not profit from beer sales.
7.
All funds raised go towards the cost of sending the drum line to
PASIC it goes to a general fund, not to individuals in the drum line,
to lower the overall cost of the trip.

Other Old Business Items
1.
Students are in the process of making and signing a large card
for Mr. Monical, who donated the truck to the band
2.
Reminder from Trixie Bone, uniform committee, that uniforms need
to be hemmed prior to competition have noted that many uniforms are
still too long. Kaelyn Koch reinforced that many of the hems are
exceptionally long.
3.
Linda Long photographer. Commented that Linda is taking photos
of all band events. If parents have photos they can submit to Linda as
she supplies the pictures for the website and will be compiling a CD of
all the videos at the end of the year.
4.
PASIC trip drum line is funding not the Booster Club.
5.
Drum line fundraiser from 12:30 2:30 Saturday, September 15 at
Gulf States is this an opportunity for
others to come support, or simply something they are doing? I
dont know
6.
Percussion fundraiser - Oct 30 11 3 at Wal-Mart along with a
bake sale
7.
Golf Tournament meeting for those interested in assisting with
the Golf tournament fundraiser at 5:30 on the September 13
New Business

Chili Supper
1.
Coye Henderson has agreed to head up this years Chili Supper
was introduced. If you want to help email Coye at: code_monkey@earthlink.net
2.
Coye already has some volunteers that have agreed to help and
they will try to meet prior to the next Booster Club meeting so they can
share more general details

Fan Club Committee Maridel Martinez has agree to
coordinate this activity Primarily focused on putting signs up along
the highway during contest time

November Election Day State competition is on
election day. Will have early voting poll locations available on the
Buc Band Website. Renee Griffith also offered to help folks that need
to register to vote
·
Prayer Volunteers
Beverly Bernzen mentioned that
schedules are available for the prayer volunteers
·
Senior Night - Trixie Bone mentioned that Sr. night
will be on November 3, during the last home game
·
Band shirts parents need to contact the band
directors or they can get them from the ladies in the uniform room
before football games if extras are need
·
Buc Band signs are in free to Freshman and new
students. Susan will remind the band directors to pass them out.
·
Band Pictures makeup session will be rescheduled
for those that were unable to be photographed due to the electrica;
outage during the previously scheduled picture session. Information on
the date and time will be posted on the web targeting September 30
for make up day.
·
State Marching Competition question about whether
all band members would stay at the same hotel. Susan indicated that she
isnt sure but explained that last year we split kids into 4 hotels and
that this worked well. Also, the Directors reserve the hotels
·
Spring Trip Commitment Fee confusion about the
payment schedule that is on the calendar. Suggested that the Directors
can be contacted re: questions on this.
