Brazoswood Buc Band General
Meeting Minutes
April 18, 2006
President Kim Blackwell called the meeting
to order at 7:30pm. Since there were no corrections to the
minutes, they were approved as posted.
Treasurer – Kelly’s financial report
was passed out as people arrived.
1st Vice-President – Sam
and Sunny thanked all those who would be chaperoning the spring
trip. While it’s always fun to be with the Band, it is a
commitment for a lot of work. All the chaperones are lined up.
The truck and trailer are close by in Richwood, but Sam hopes to
be relocating it here on site soon to begin the demolition to
the inside that is needed before it can be outfitted with the
custom designed cart/module system that will be created and
used. The first weekend in May will be the start date for demo
and reconstruction. Several welding businesses have offered
their services. We will need to build two retractable ramps: one
for the ground to 1st floor, and one for the 1st
to the 2nd floor. The Coca Cola emblem is still very
visible on the truck and Sam has found some information on using
aircraft paint remover to remedy this. We need to meet to set
some guidelines for sponsorship before accepting any sponsor
orders; i.e. amount and length of time it appears, how it is
applied, a gold, silver, bronze, lifetime sponsorship concept,
etc.
2nd Vice-President –
Vinay offered Kroger and Randall fundraiser cards to new people
at the meeting. He addressed the fundraiser we will be doing to
sell bottled water at graduation. Previously, we had one pallet
of water and sold it all – and could have sold more. So, this
year we will have two pallets available. Due to our sponsorship
on the labels, the first pallet works out to be all profit. The
second pallet costs the band the price of the water, but any not
sold that night will be used for the band trips next year. So,
it is essentially all profit for the fundraiser. Since there are
approximately 1440 bottles per pallet selling for $1 each, we
have the potential to make a considerable amount for so little
effort ( in comparison to other fundraisers). Anyone wanting to
help sell the water in the concession stands or in the bleachers
that evening can contact Sam or Sunny.
Spirit – Sherri asked the parents to
remind their students to bring their water bottles with them to
boot camp.
Hospitality – Bonnie is finalizing
banquet plans. The invitations will be given to the students
very soon and the RSVP will be due back May 5th.
There will be a form to tear off and return. The banquet is
Friday, May 19 at the Civic Center from 7-12pm. There will be a
DJ to play music for the dance and students can bring their own
CD’s. Café Annice is the caterer and will give an entrée choice
of beef tips on rice or a grilled chicken breast. The meal
includes a salad, vegetable, rolls, dessert and beverage. They
will be required to note their choice on their response slip.
The cost is $15 per person. Students may come at 9pm if they do
not want to be there for the dinner. As usual, each student will
receive a gift from the Booster Club whether they are present or
not that evening. The attire is church or party dress for girls
and a nice shirt with slacks (no jeans) for guys. Jacket and tie
are optional. Sign-up sheets are out for chaperones and
decorating volunteers. Decorating will take place sometime that
afternoon.
Public Relations – Carol has
received the new member Buc Band signs and has delivered them to
Mr. Koch to hand out at an appropriate time.
Auxiliary – The Winter Guard is
having a car wash fundraiser this Saturday from 9-3 behind
Chick-Fil-A and Pam is encouraging everyone to support them and
come by. The Guard returned from State with honors: “B” guard
came in 7th and “A” guard came in 4th.
At this time Kim asked us to mark our
ballots in the election of the 2006-2007 Booster club president.
The ballots were gathered and Vinay and Pam withdrew to count
them.
Director’s Reports:
Mr. Koch reminded us that the Band
Booster Club was formed in 1981 and the directors have always
been grateful for the hard work and dedication of the officers
each year.
He announced the good news that the new
drill will be ready this week! It was originally written for the
Santa Clara Vanguard (a much larger organization), but we will
get a shortened version appropriate for our band. Matt Garrett
will be doing our visuals again. We should be very prepared for
Rice BOA on Oct. 3rd.
Next Wednesday is our UIL Concert and Sight
reading competition at Pearland High School on Hwy. 35. All 3
bands will perform that day, and everyone is encouraged to come
and support them. Concert Winds: 11:00am; Concert: 5:00pm;
Symphonic 7:25pm.
For the symphonic band’s honor band taping,
they will leave at noon May 5th for Austin and then
perform at 9pm at the Clepp Performance Center at the high
school in Georgetown. The next day they will perform at UT
Austin for State Wind Ensemble at 4pm. and return home
afterwards. On May 13th they will be performing at
the Moores Recital Hall at Uof H. April 25th, May 9th
and 11th will have them at the Clarion at BC.
Mr. Casey: He reminded everyone that
all Food King receipts can be dropped in locker #301 any time.
Jazz-O-Rama will be May 15th at 7pm. David Cacerez,
San Antonio’s star saxophone player, will be performing.
Mr. Casey has been the main coordinator for the spring trip and
is pleased with all the activities and opportunities the band
will experience next week. We are planning on leaving at 7am
next Thursday. Everyone needs to bring a sack lunch and wear
their band shirts and shorts to be ready to pull on their
uniforms as soon as we get to UT San Antonio for our
performance. After this, we will head to the Magic Time Machine
for dinner and then to our hotels in San Marcos for the night.
Friday we will come back to San Antonio to enjoy Sea World until
6pm, when we will go to the Old San Francisco Steak House for
dinner. Students will need to buy their own lunch at Sea World.
Then back to the San Marcos hotels. (This is Fiesta Week in San
Antonio, unfortunately, so all hotels are taken and the traffic
is a problem). Saturday we will head north to Austin to visit
the Bob Bullock State History Museum, then visit and watch the
IMAX presentation followed by a picnic lunch of Conan’s Pizza.
Vinay has somehow arranged for us to get in to see the Capitol
building on a day when it is normally closed to the public. We
will be able to tour in groups of about 40 at a time. So, while
a group is on tour, the others can play on the grounds. After
all have toured the Capitol, we will go to the Highland’s Mall
to shop and eat (each student is responsible for buying their
own meal). Then, from 7-10pm we will be at the Northcross Mall
for ice skating, with the rink closed for our private use the
last hour. Back to San Marcos for some sleep (?). Sunday we will
visit Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels and depart later in the
afternoon. Further detailed times and instructions will come
home with the students.
Mrs. Alcocer: Recruitment for next
year’s Color Guard will take place with a camp held from 4-6pm
May 8-11th, and then the actual auditions held May 12th.
She asked that we get the word out to any girls that might be
interested, in-coming freshmen as well as current high school
students. With only 2 girls leaving at the end of the year, she
anticipates a large group for next year.
Sixteen girls will be participating in the
Belle’s Spring Show May 12-13th.
At this time the ballots had been counted
and the slate of new officers for ’06-’07 was presented by Vinay:
President: Susan Campbell
1st VP: Sunny Henry
2nd VP: Keith Wise
Secretary: Jackie Hicks
Treasurer: Robin Wise
Spirit: Sherri Archer
Hospitality: Frances Socha
P/R: Doug White
Auxiliary: Rhonda Kuharski
Congratulations to everyone and Good Luck!
The meeting was adjourned at 8:15pm. This
is the last general meeting of the 2005-2006 school year.
Respectfully Submitted,
Lynn Long - Secretary
