BUC BAND BOOSTER CLUB
MEETING MINUTES
January 13, 2009
Welcome – Jeff Gilbert – opened the meeting at 7:30pm
Band Director Reports
- Mr. Koch – Information on Region band announced. The concert will be at Clear Springs High School on January 17, 2009 @ 5pm. Kevin Nix and Daniel Cuevas have been hired as the Color Guard instructors. Daniel will also student teach with the band in the fall of 2009. The harps were sold for $3000.00. Marching show 2009 unveiled at TMEA in February. Solo/Ensemble will be held at Brazoswood High School on January 31, 2009 and the Chili Supper/Silent Auction/Concert is to follow. It was announced that 2009-2010 will go to seven class period days. Spring 2009 all band students will be in Advisory together. Finals are this week and it’s a matter of getting items checked off and cleared. All-State students are as follow: Claire Schreiber, Josh Vonderhide, and Justin Mikulencak.
- Mr. Casey – Re-emphasized finals!! Outlined spring trip to New Orleans (on Buc Band website). The band will leave on Thursday, April 23, 2009 and return on Sunday, April 26, 2009. Solo/Ensemble solos will be heard by the directors and will be counted as part of your child’s grade for these six weeks. Upcoming concerts: Percussionist on January 14 and Diane Schuur on January 24, 2009.
- Ms. Walden – Program cover contest with a cash prize for student is due next week
Secretary Minutes – Carolyn Alvarado – not present (Beth Dauer)
- A motion was made by Jeff Gilbert to approve the Booster Meeting minutes from the November 2008 meeting. The motion was seconded by Bob Bowden and the minutes were unanimously approved by meeting attendees.
Treasurer Report – Daryl Dauer
- Daryl reported $40,849.48 in the account. A motion was made by David McKelroy to approve the treasurer report. The motion was seconded by Shane Pirtle and the treasurer report was unanimously approved by meeting attendees.
Board Committee Reports
- First Vice President – David McKelroy – no report
- Second Vice President – Juanita Young(not present) – Jeff Gilbert – Toyota workers still needed for events
- Food/Beverage Committee – Frances Socha – No report – This will be an open position on the board next year
- Capital Improvements/Props (Set Design) – Shane Pirtle – will be doing routine maintenance on the trailer
- Public Relations/Merchandise – Bob Bowden – Spirit signs will be going to press on Wednesday, January 14, 2009. Suggestions were made for spirit merchandise for next year such as drawstring backpacks, totes, messenger bags; recycle shopping bags, flip flops, pajama pants, and etc…A stadium seat for Silent Auction was suggested.
Non-Standing Committee Report
- Color Guard – Leah Hardesty – Winter Guards first contest will be on March 7, 2009 in Corpus Christi
- Uniforms – Trixie Bone – Looking for marching fees to clear your students name and grade
- Hospitality – Beth Dauer – no report
- Percussion Liaison – Mike Morris – no report
- Chili Supper – Debra Perry - We are need of sponsors. Items needed are Fritos and margarine (looking for donations or buying). Volunteer opening almost filled but can always use more people. Asking for all students to bring a dessert for Chili Supper. We are looking at 70% of sales to go to students depending on donations. This position will be an open one for next year.
- Solo/Ensemble Concession – Kaelyn Koch – Does hospitality for judges and concessions for everyone else. Please bring a single wrapped dessert/cookie that will sell for .75 cents but please make the Chili Supper first priority f or desserts. Set-up will be on Friday, January 30 @ 4pm and beginning at 7:30am on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Ninth Grade Cafeteria.
- Silent Auction – Gemi Powell – Accepting any donations….Regift!! This is counted as about $3000.00 of our budget. If you have any donations please email Gemi @ gemi.powell@brazosport.edu
Old Business
- Election Committee Chair – Frances Socha – Frances has agreed to be chair of this committee since she has a graduating senior. Go Cassie!!! Please have a letter of intent for the office for which you would like to run by the February booster club meeting.
New Business
- Jeff Gilbert – Three school board positions are open in May. Please check your district and consider who you would like to fill that position
