Dear band parents,
Since the band is leaving so early Saturday morning for San Antonio, many of the students won’t have eaten breakfast. We’d like to have some food available that morning for the kids to grab on the way to their buses.
Breakfast:
Please send the following food items to school with your students either Wednesday, Thursday, of Friday. I’ll put some boxes in the band hall where they can put the food.
- Freshmen: 1-2 packages of juice boxes
- Sophomores: 1 dozen muffins (either store bought or homemade…please don’t feel like you have to bake.)
- Juniors: 1 box granola bars
Lunch:
Also please pack a sack lunch for your band student for Sat. We’ll be feeding them BBQ for dinner Saturday evening.
This information is also posted: http://www.bucband.org/upload/announcements.shtml
Thank you,
Rita DePalatis

All:
The regular Band Booster Meeting is this coming Tuesday October 13, 2009 @ 7:30 pm. Please make plans to attend this important and informative meeting of the Band Booster Club as we get updates on the first two marching contests and hear plans for the next three contests including The Lone Star Preview in The Woodlands, UIL in Dickinson and the BOA Super Regional in San Antonio! This is the LAST meeting before the conclusion of the competitive marching season and is a great time to ask questions and to find out how you can help.
Also on the same Tuesday at 6:00 pm at The Lake Jackson Civic Center will be an information meeting for the residents of the district to learn specifics about the upcoming Bond Election to be held November 3, 2009. Your input and participation at this meeting should help our members understand the plan and all the Bonds are to cover and what they will cost. Joe Ripple the Superintendent of the District and Dan Schaefer of the district will speak. NOTE: this meeting was moved to an earlier start time to allow YOU as members of the Brazoswood Band Booster Club to attend and get information. I appreciate this accommodation by the Brazosport Federation of Teachers who have underwritten the cost of this informative event.
Thank you for all that you do. Thank you for your continued support of all the children in the Band Program and all you each do to support your own children to be a part of The Might Buc Band!
Warm regards,
Jeff Gilbert, President
Brazoswood Band Booster Club

All:
Attached is a link of a speech delivered to the Texas Music Educators Association on the importance of Fine Arts and Music in a Student’s success academically and in life. I share this with you in case any of you have doubts as to the importance of the continuation of these programs in our school’s curriculum and more importantly at this time if you have any doubts as to the need to invest in these programs. I urge you to educate yourself, your friends and neighbors about the Bond Proposal being put forth to voters on November 3, 2009.

All:
The Band Booster Club needs your help now. After nearly 15 months of planning and meetings held by a special district facilities planning committee of which myself, other band parents and even former booster club president Gerald Roznovsky were members, the school board will finally be meeting to vote on a facilities bond package that includes much needed, long overlooked, and previously ignored in the last band package improvements to Brazoswood High School that include major upgrades and replacements to the current fine arts wing (new acoustically correct band halls, sound proof practice rooms, adequate office space, storage facilities, music library, etc.). Also included are new orchestra, drama, choir facilities and a brand new state of the art auditorium for use by the entire school.
Also included in the proposal is a maintenance bond that will allow for replacement uniforms and musical instruments.
These necessary improvements are part of an overall bond package being considered by the school board that affects 19 different BISD campuses. It is up to the board members to determine which proposals, if any, make it to the voters. I would appreciate your showing your continued support for the band program now and for future students by attending this meeting (perhaps even in your Band Booster Shirts! :-) )
The meeting is this coming Tuesday, September 1st @ 5:00 pm in the board room of the admin building across the street from B'Wood. NOTE: The Board generally convenes and then immediately goes into executive session. They usually go back into public session between 5:45 and 6:00 pm. That is when we really need you. Your kids will be marching at Tuesday night practice from 6-9.
Please try to attend and contact me with any questions.

To all:
The Band Participation Fee for the 2009-2010 School year is set at $210. While this is an increase over the prior year it remains well below other programs in our area. Thanks are owed to our band directors for using their "sharp pencils" to get this amount to lower than anticipated/feared numbers. Also, thanks to the Superintendent and the District's Budget Director for keeping the lines of communication open with directors and band board members to agree to continue to fund the band's transportation to/from games and contests on school bus.
These fees are due, as always, at the time your child has their uniform issued to them-probably the last week of Summer Band.
Are we out of the woods? No. Our share of funds from Mr. Snell's Brazoswood Account will be decreased because the total amount of funds he has available to give different groups and departments has been reduced. We will continue to work with him to ensure that the Band's percentage of the pie remains significant reflecting the size of the organization and its contributions to the school and the community.
Also, remember that all or part of your child's BAND FEES/TRIP ACCOUNT/GUARD FEES/PASIC FEES may be earned by working at Toyota Center where 100% of your earnings can go to benefit your child. We are still trying to determine how to use the earnings from this work to have it applied by the deadline.
Also, we appreciate and look forward to your continued help and participation in all other fundraising activities. There are many. Make sure to come to Booster Club meeting next Tuesday Night at 7:30.
Warm regards and GO BUC BAND!!

Subject: Buc Band Rehearsal Reminders
Buc Band Parents,
If possible, you should remind your child to eat a good breakfast in the morning before coming to practice.
On behalf of the Directors, the Students and the Band-Aids no one SHOULD pull into the driveway by the Band Hall at ANY time before, during or after Practice. A number of sections have multiple pieces of equipment to remove from the marching field after rehearsal and require multiple trips to and from the practice field after practice.
Please help our students and directors stay healthy and our band equipment undamaged by picking your students up on the lot on the East side of the practice field (Clute/Richwood side) or on the North side of the Director’s Tower (Angleton side) or along Brazoswood Boulevard.
Regards,
Bob

Guess what time it is!
Now, stepping off on the west end of the B’Wood parking lot is the 2009 – 2010 Mighty Buc Band …
Monday morning, August 3rd at 7:30 a.m. the 2009 – 2010 Buc Band will meet to get the ball rolling for an awesome season!
Please wear sunglasses, a hat, cool clothes, and lots of sunscreen.
Bring your instrument, music, and a thermos or camelback for water.
Students from last year, I need you to return your blue BUC BAND WATER BOTTLE. There are problems with this bottle and we are returning them to the company. You will get a new replacement this week. It’s even better than the first bottle.
Thanks,
Beth Dauer

To all current and former BUC BAND Students and Parents,
Due to issues with the blue water bottles, the gift from Band Banquet, I need to collect as many of these as I can. There have been problems with the bottle itself and we are returning them to the company. You may bring them to the band hall the first few days of summer band or deliver them to Detail Products on Old Angleton Rd.
The good news…new ones have been ordered and will be ready soon. These are in the process of being tested for heat issues in order to avoid problems during the marching season.
The personnel and owners of Detail Products have been working all summer to get this straightened out for us. Please tell them “Thank you” when you see them.
Now a note to parents of Seniors ’09: I need your help in chaperoning the pool party on Tuesday, August 11th, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Clute pool. Parents of current band students will need to attend the meeting in the band hall. Everything will be provided for you. Just show up and be glad this is your only band commitment for the year. Life guards will be on duty! Please respond to Beth at dtdauer@earthlink.net.
Thanks everyone for all your hard work…last year and the coming year!
